G-BT05 Sneak Preview Tournament Listing >>

The new Booster Pack featuring cards from Cardfight!! Vanguard G GIRS Crisis will be out next week, and the Sneak Preview weekends start today! Are you excited for the new cards? There are support cards for some familiar faces of yesteryear as well as cards that help boost the newer decks, so there’s literally something for everyone!

Let’s get some hype going by taking a look at a few cards that will be released in the set! We’ll kick off this preview by looking at some new cards for…

Oracle Think TankORACLE THINK TANK

One Who Views the Planet, Globe Magus

G-BT05/004EN

A support card for the “Magus” side of Oracle Think Tank, this card has an interesting type of Continuous ability that hasn’t appeared in the game before. Its ability allows the player to, at any point during his or her turn, to check the top card of his or her deck, and place it back onto the top of the deck, including during the resolution of an ability.

As the Magus series of cards play around naming the top card of your deck to gain bonus effects, this card basically ensures that you can always get the name right 100% of the time. Another interesting thing to note about its ability is that you can actually use it between trigger checks, before resolving trigger effects, to check the next card before assigning trigger effects. Plan out your triggers efficiently with this ability to achieve a perfect, calculated victory!

Dragon Destroyer Battle Deity, Kamususanoo

G-BT05/003EN

Susanoo’s G unit form features an ability that is similar to that of Soaring Auspicious Beast, Kirin; when its attack hits a vanguard, you can look at the top 2 cards of your deck, put one to your hand, and put the rest of the cards to the bottom of the deck. As every cardfighter knows, expanding your hand size is always good, but this effect is all the more important due to the Generation Break 3 effect that it can potentially gain.

Kamususanoo can gain a Continuous Generation Break 3 ability gives all units on your field +2000 power. To get the most out of this effect, its best to field as many rear-guards as you can so each column can get the maximum +4000 power boost. Because you have to play out more rear-guards, Kamususanoo’s ability to expand your hand size is one that is very welcome!

Link JokerLINK JOKER

Arrester Messiah

G-BT05/001EN
Genesis Dragon, Excelics Messiah
G-BT05/016EN
Arrester Messiah

Another strong addition to the “Messiah” series of Link Joker, Arrester Messiah is a handy card that helps to fuel the effects of the various “Messiah” vanguards. Although it only gains the ability when it enters a rear-guard circle, this card has the flexibility as a rear-guard to lock either player’s unit in the back row.

Cards like Genesis Dragon, Amnesty Messiah and the new Genesis Dragon, Excelics Messiah have abilities that involve unlocking your own units to gain more powerful effects. If you use Arrester Messiah’s effect on one of your own rear-guards, you only need to have 1 other rear-guard locked to fire off your strongest abilities.

Death Star-vader, Chaos Universe

G-BT05/007EN

This card’s effect checks for heart cards with “Chaos” in its card name … which means the dreaded “Clown”, Star-vader, Chaos Breaker Dragon, will be re-entering the fray. Chaos Universe bypasses Resist protection by directly targeting a rear-guard circle and forcing the opponent to place a card from their hand there as a locked card. It can also lock an additional rear-guard if there are 2 or more face-up cards in your G-zone.

A key point to remember: G units being sent back to the G-zone and circles unlocking at the end of the turn both happen at the same time, which means that you can use Star-vader, Chaos Breaker Dragon’s effect to retire the newly unlocked units and draw cards as long as its Limit Break ability is active.

Gear ChronicleGEAR CHRONICLE

Clockfencer Dragon

G-BT05/010EN

Featuring the new Time Leap keyword ability, Clockfencer Dragon is a versatile card that can be used to setup a strong field. Its ability triggers when it enters the field from the hand, and as such, it offers players flexibility in terms of timing their Time Leap effects. As it has no lingering effects after, it itself can then be used as a “catalyst” to superior call Grade 3 cards from the deck via another unit’s Time Leap.

NarukamiNARUKAMI

Rockclimb Dragoon

G-BT05/005EN
Conquering Supreme Dragon,
Dragonic Vanquisher “VOLTAGE”

G-BT05/014EN
Rockclimb Dragoon

A support card for “Vanquisher” that has a reasonable cost and allows you to retire and bind an opponent’s unit on the field, Rockclimb Dragoon is definitely a must play for decks centered around Dragonic Vanquisher. This is especially important with the new G unit, Conquering Supreme Dragon, Dragonic Vanquisher “VOLTAGE”, whose ability gives your front row rear-guards power based on the number of cards in your opponent’s bind zone.

Pale MoonPALE MOON

Nightmare Doll, Catherine

G-BT05/009EN

An old, old favorite gets a welcome revival with this card! Nightmare Doll, Alice used to be a staple in Pale Moon decks, but couldn’t keep up as other clans and decks started to get even more powerful. With Nightmare Doll, Catherine, the possibility that an offensive Nightmare Doll deck can sweep the competition is very real.

Nightmare Doll, Alice’s weakness previously was its inability to activate its effect if its attack does not hit. With Catherine, there is no longer that problem! As long as the player has sufficient cards in the damage zone, Alice’s onslaught is virtually unstoppable. Catherine even lets the player search for a card from his or her deck and place it into the soul, to set up for a tidal wave of Alice attacks.

Alice is a pretty old card, though, and seems like it’ll be hard to find…

Darkside Princess

G-BT05/019EN

Pale Moon’s new keyword effect, Magia, forces the player to send cards that were called to the field from the soul back into the soul at the end of the turn. What better way to abuse that fact than to use Darkside Princess’s ability? It can gain a sizable power boost when attacking a vanguard, and will be sent to the soul at the end of its battle. If you call it out via a Magia effect, it’s gonna have to go back into the soul anyway, so this card’s “drawback” isn’t really a drawback at all!

All in all this set looks to be very fun to play around with especially because more and more old cards are getting revivals. I’m pretty excited for the Catherine/Alice combo, as Pale Moon was one of the first few clans I began dabbling in too!
