BWC2016 Asia-Oceania Continental Finals
Bushiroad World Championship 2016 has concluded the very last Continental Finals on 3rd December 2016! After many rounds of battle at the regional qualifier tournaments, 19 players from the Asia-Oceania region, each representing their country, gathered on the beautiful island of Bali, Indonesia. However, only one of them will go home with the title of Champion of Asia-Oceania region.
At the end of the day, we are very pleased to announce the Champion of Bushiroad World Championship 2016 Asia-Oceania Continental Finals – Andy Lo!!

Andy was a Masters student in Applied Mathematics who graduated this July. Currently, he is in the midst of job hunting.

Congratulations on the victory! How does it feel to be crowned Continental Champion?
I’m still not sure how I feel. I guess it feels good, because I get to represent New Zealand on the international stage. New Zealand is a pretty small country and we have very few players. We are often overlooked by other countries, so it’s nice to finally show that we do have serious competition in New Zealand.
Is this your first BWC?
No. I joined the World Championship last year.
How did you perform previously?
I didn’t do very well in 2015. I was using Glendios deck from Link Joker. I think there were five rounds, and I came out 3-2 but it wasn’t enough to get to top 8. I didn’t practice enough either.
Can you share about your strategy in winning the game today?
For the Continentals, I knew that there will be a lot of people playing Gear Chronicle. Therefore, I picked a deck that will counter them. I used the Grade 1 rush deck. Basically, you try to stay in Grade 1—so your opponent can’t Stride—while you rush them down. Gear Chronicle is Generation Break-reliant.
How long have you been playing the game?
3 years.
What is your favorite card?
Do you watch the animation? If yes, which character would you like to challenge?
Yes, I do! Um… Kai! He is pretty serious and stoic.He generally plays pretty well too, so it’ll be pretty interesting.
Anything else you wish to say?
I like this Continentals. There were a lot of players using Gear Chronicle, so it was pretty challenging to stay at the top. I’m really excited for next year’s championship, too. The new format seems to be more skill-based, so it will be more challenging and exciting to top the tournament!
