The Bushiroad Spring Fest (BSF) 2016 heats up, we arrive at one of the largest events in the circuit to date. New York usually has a high volume of players that come out to Cardfight, but this time we had an amazing number of teams turn up to play with their friends and show who will be the best! With the new mechanic G guardian being released a week before the event, players were very excited to try out this new system against other decks.

By the end of the day, everyone had fun and was able to enjoy exciting matches!

Congratulations again to team Fluffy Panda and we hope to see all invitees at the North America Continental Finals.

Congratulations on the victory! How does it feel to be crowned National Champion?

It feels surprising! We’ve gone before but never won the whole thing.

Can you share a little bit more on how the team got together?

We’re a big group of friends that met at gamers gambit and also went to the same school.

Did your team do anything special to prepare for the tournament?

We practiced with two other decks and switched at the last minute haha.

Is this your first time participating in a nation-wide Bushiroad Tournament?

We’ve played in the previous circuit as well.

How do you enjoy entering the tournament as a team, compared to as individuals?

I got my buddies by my side, and there’s no better feeling than that!

Do you have a favorite card?

Rafael: Altmile. I needed an avatar that is a guy. I never liked Blaster Blade but, I liked Altmile.

Billy: Choronojet. I’ve always been into steam punk so that caught my attention.

Steven: Susanoo. It’s kind of hard to choose, I’ve always liked Amaterasu and Susanoo, but if I had to choose, I’d choose Susanoo.

Do you watch the animation? If you could pick one team in the animation you’d like to challenge to a Cardfight, which one would it be?

Yes! AL4 (Team Asteroid), Team Q4 haha.

Anything else you wish to say about the event/game?

The game is fun and really enjoyable! When is the Blaster Blade or Amaterasu legend deck coming out?

The Vanguard Team League was a wonderful showcase of talented players! The event saw over 250 players come to duke it out for a spot at the Continentals held at C3 CharaExpo 2016 over in Singapore. Some even flew over from neighbouring countries to make their show of skill. Players strutted their stuff and unleashed months’ worth of practice and refined decks at each other.

Out of the mayhem of a full day’s worth of Cardfighting, many top decks were had, manly tears were shed, but eventually team “The Crowser Disciple” emerged as the champion. They are made up of a trio who met each other through playing Cardfight!! Vanguard, and decided to band together to achieve the greater good. As a privileged member of the Bushiroad staff, I had the chance to interview them for a rare insight into their thoughts and team dynamics.

Congratulations on the victory! How does it feel to be crowned National Champion?

We’re very happy. Very good! We’re very glad that we could make it to the top.

Can you share a little bit more on how the team got together?

We’re all friends now, but we met through playing the game, in the local community.

Did your team do anything special to prepare for the tournament?

We didn’t really do anything special…
Steven Low Jin Kang: I did study about all the clans, especially my clan. But generally, just normal training.

Is this your first time participating in a nation-wide Bushiroad Tournaments? How did you perform in the previous circuits?

No.
Steven Low Jin Kang: I made it to the Bushiroad World Championship Top 2 in Malaysia previously.

How do you enjoy entering the tournament as a team, compared to as individuals?

We enjoy the team system as we can rely on our teammates. If we win, we win together; if we lose, we lose together. Whether it’s about happiness or sadness we face it together. We don’t feel as tense as compared to competing in individual tournaments and are less stressed. It helps us to play our best. We can count on our teammates.

Do you have a favorite card?

Steven Low Jin Kang: My favourite card is Super Dimensional Robo, Daikaiser. It’s my favourite charge unit.
Jerome Heng Heng Yi: Dragonic Overlord The End for me.
Yap Khai Meng: Mine is Tidal Assault.

Do you watch the animation and follow up with the latest updates?

Yes, we watch the animations, and everyday we check and keep ourselves updated.

Anything else you wish to say about the event/the game?

The event was quite okay.
Everyone can join, and anyone can be the winner. Just trust yourself.

The Self-Help Guru

For true excellence, all great players must spend immense amounts of time reviewing and analysing their own play. But self-improvement is harder to do the higher your proficiency gets. The Self-Help Guru knows this, and acts as if he is good at improving himself; but in actuality he is a gundu, like everybody else. Being the best at pursuit is both temporal and relative, and the struggle to be great never truly ends.

With the conclusion of these recent BSF2016 Regional Qualifiers, we are now one step closer to the Continental Finals! It’ll also be exciting to observe how the introduction of G guardian and 16 G units will spice things up in future tournaments.

Thank you everyone for such a great experience thus far. Let’s continue to strive for better results together!

That’s it for today! See you guys next Friday!
